We show that two published coin-flipping protocols are breakable in the sense that one of the parties can pre-determine the result of the coin-flip. The way in which the protocols fail is illustrative of subtle ways in which a protocol designer may combine secure cryptographic primitives - such as one-way functions and encryption - in a way that produces an insecure cryptographic protocol.
