Situation Analysis, for which information fusion is a key enabler, has to deal with knowledge and uncertainty. This paper discusses the key notions of knowledge, belief and uncertainty in relation to information fusion. The aim is not to provide a theory of some sort but to help the information fusion practitioner to navigate and see the links among the numerous mathematical and logical models/tools that are available to process uncertainty-based information and knowledge.
