The Austrian Patient Summary (APS) is being developed to enhance healthcare interoperability and cross-border data exchange, aligning with international frameworks.
Objectives:
This paper outlines the APS’s underlying standards, emphasizing international compatibility and integration with ELGA. The primary aims are to enhance care continuity and coordination while ensuring compliance with international standards.
Methods:
The APS is developed through national collaboration and alignment with international initiatives. A dedicated HL7 FHIR Implementation Guide (IG) is being created to define the APS data model, utilizing reusable templates to ensure data consistency.
Results:
The APS follows a multi-tiered specification hierarchy, integrating with international standards, incorporating standardized content like Allergies, Problems, Medications, and Immunizations.
Conclusion:
The APS represents a major advancement in healthcare interoperability. Ongoing FHIR IG refinement and CarePlan integration will enhance APS usability for integrated care and cross-border interoperability.
