Abstract
NATO is not only a military and a political alliance, but above all, it is an alliance of common values. We all want to live in a democratic world, a world where there is rule of law, freedom of the media, respect of the human rights and functioning institutions, not only passing new laws, but also taking care of their effective implementation. Foreign fighters and violent extremism have become for all of us a top priority in relation with security. In September 2014, the Parliament of the FY Republic of Macedonia

adopted amendments and additions to the Penal Law, that punish all forms of participation in foreign army, paramilitary, police and para-police formations. The severe punishment for such crime contributes to the prevention of the recruitment of individuals and groups, and, in general, helps to strengthen the fight against terrorism. The country focusses on the democratic processes, with an uncompromising fight against all forms of corruption, reforms in the defense system and improved good neighbor relations, in order to become a stability factor in the region. The implementation of the reforms in the judicial system remain our high priority, focusing on strengthening its independence and increasing its efficiency, especially in fighting all kind of criminal organizations. This process is possible only in a safe environment that requires partnership inside NATO.
