Abstract

The FY Republic of Macedonia

Turkey recognizes the Republic of Macedonia with its constitutional name (this note applies to any mention of the name FY Republic of Macedonia in this document).

for too long and not only by its own guilt, remained living its decennial status quo. With outer isolation, the material and immaterial damage suffered has doubled, out of a long excommunication from the main economic and political flows. It is visible in education, media and judicial institutions. Not being exposed to verification and democratic pressure from both the outside and the inside is doomed to failure. The society gets divided between a small group of oligarchic winners and a vast majority who understands the unproductive situation and therefore has already left or is on the way to leave, the real causes of migration and brain-drain in the region. The energy corridors and the EU and NATO integration processes are highlighting the geostrategic and geopolitical positions of the FY Republic of Macedonia. Is there a chance, with the support of our neighbors and international community, for reaching a broader consensus to establish Skopje, due to geographical, ethno-religious and political reasons, as a corner stone for future regional integration? It would convert the potentially explosive situation and fragile structures in the region into a more stable and cohesive one. Media and courts as central lever that should provide and create a new ambient are unavoidable necessitie. Justice is the highest priority: at the root and as the first cause of all conflicts and disruption of general security lays the perception of a lack of justice.
