The lecture begins by evoking the thought world of the terrorist, dominated by notions heroism and evil. The importance of the ideology is emphasized. Focusing on suicide bombers, the lecture provides ‘in broad terms’ the profile of an attacker. The motivations of the suicide are listed, as are the demands placed on him/her by the terrorist group. This chapter also answers the question why women are preferred as suicide attackers. In conclusion, it notes that “not only the security forces but all other institutions and civil society must get involved in coping with suicide terrorism”.
