The use of modern Biomedical Technology in hospitals today, imposes great demands for effective management and assessment. BEAM (Biomedical Equipment Assessment and Management) has actually developed informatics tools in order to assist Clinical Engineers in performing their tasks towards this direction. The system is able to exploit the enormous amount of information produced continuously in different countries, access and retrieve it from local and remote databases, introduce new standards and tools for the management of medical equipment in the hospital environment. It also provides communication means between clinical engineers and promotes Quality Assurance procedures. The outcome of the BEAM project, is a prototype system incorporating tools, supporting the clinical engineering department in all its functions as well as, databases and communication facilities for exchange and access of this information.
