TELEPRIM is an acronym for Telematic Services in Primary Care.
Most efforts of applying telematics to health care have been oriented to Secondary care or Hospitals. By contrast, much less resources has been dedicated to introduce the use of telematic systems to support health care services at the Primary Care level; although it has been clearly demonstrated the much larger benefit that in terms of the health status of any community has this level of care. Moreover, available experience, shows without any doubt that telematic Primary Care Services can be cost-effective, provided that adequate technology is developed. Moreover, it may be the only way to define appropriate models for Primary Care, very inefficient all over the world to handle a wide variety of its roles.
This outlines the scope of present project, whose main objectives are:
- to complete Health Care Telematic Services emerging from running ECC R&D activities in Primary Care,
- to install, test and validate the project in three pilot sites in Northern Ireland (UK), Extremadura Region (Spain) and Turku (Finland), under real-life conditions; and
- to contribute to enrich related standards, within the field of the TC251 activities, as well as any other standardisation European bodies.
Outputs of the project will be health care telematic services at the regional/community level that will take the form of:
- services to support routine work of the professionals involved,
- services for the training of health care providers and patient and to support health programmes, and
- services to improve resources monitoring and exploitation control.
This project will integrate through the constituent partners their experience and the most relevant results (Public or Restricted to AIM programme participants) of the following relevant European Initiatives in Primary Care: ISAAC, SHINE, PRIMACARE, EPIC
