The soil nailing technique has gained its popularity on slope stabilisation in Hong Kong since the early 1990s. Experience gained over the years of application has led to the development of the technique in respect of design method, construction, quality control and new technology. In recent years, the Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO) of the Civil Engineering and Developement Department in Hong Kong has carried out a series of soil-nail-related studies and summarised the experience gained with an ultimate goal of preparing improved guidelines on the design and construction of soil nails. The Guide to Soil Nail Design and Construction (Geoguide 7) was published in 2008. The Geoguide 7 presents a recommended standard of good practice for the design, construction, monitoring and maintenance of soil-nailed systems. This paper highlights the salient points of the content of the Geoguide.
