This paper discusses the design of habitable interactive spaces, drawing from the experience of designing, implementing, coding and monitoring a smart home over the last five years. The design loop is described, failure areas identified and discussed with particular focus on users' behaviour. A series of questions are set, addressing–from a design perspective–occupancy, data collection, processing and re-actions of an interactive environment.
