After ten years of efficient development, Keshen 8 gas reservoir has consistently maintained high and stable production, establishing itself as one of the successful development blocks within the Tarim Oilfield. However, in the past three years, water breakthrough has emerged in the western region of the Keshen 8 gas reservoir, posing a substantial risk to its stable production due to water invasion. In order to address this issue and enhance gas reservoir recovery, a reservoir description of sandbody, interlayers, and reservoir properties has been conducted. This paper not only offers a better understanding of the Keshen 8 gas reservoir’s current state but also provides a foundation for formulating effective strategies to mitigate the water breakthrough issue. By leveraging the knowledge gained from the analysis, engineers and researchers can devise targeted measures to improve reservoir management, enhance production techniques, and ultimately maximize the recovery efficiency of the gas reservoir.
