With the issuance of Shanghai Technical Standard for Energy dissipation, Vibration reduction and Isolation of Buildings (DG/TJ08-2326) in 2020, the requirements on structural seismic performance are stricter for eight-categorized important buildings. One category of building is low-rise kindergarten buildings. To illustrate the function of friction damper in low-rise building, 18 friction dampers are applied in a 4-story kindergarten building and nonlinear seismic analysis is performed. The analysis is done with seismic input of small, moderate and large seismic input. The analysis results show that the friction dampers can dissipate significant energy in moderate and large seismic input. With the contribution of friction dampers, the structural response can meet the requirements in Shanghai technical standard.
