As a typical hollow thin-wall structure, the crash box still has low energy absorption efficiency and poor anti-collision drawbacks. In order to improve the crash box’s energy absorption and anti-collision performance, two novel UOC (Uniform OC structure) and GOC (Gradient OC structure) are designed by using the orthogonal concave honeycomb structure with a negative Poisson’s ratio. Then the impact dynamics simulation analysis of the two forms is carried out by using ANSYS. The results show that the UOC structure can effectively improve the collision resistance and energy absorption performance of the hollow crash box (HCB), while there are still some problems such as excessive peak impact force and impact reaction force. However, the GOC structure with gradient arrangement can significantly improve the problems existing in UOC structure. The GOC2 structure can reduce the peak impact force of HCB structure by 75.1% and increase the energy absorption capacity by 34.2%, which is the structure with the best anti-collision and energy absorption characteristics.
