The geotechnical engineering community previously lacked a central repository which summarizes, distills, and distributes the abundant amount of information regarding geoconstruction technologies. Today, a central repository system is available at www.GeoTechTools.org. This new comprehensive, web-based information and guidance system compiles knowledge for forty-six geoconstruction technologies applicable to transportation infrastructure from the following areas: geosynthetics, ground improvement, grouting, slope stabilization, soil reinforcement, soil stabilization, alternative materials, and recycled geomaterials. The information system contains two primary components, a Catalog of Technologies and a Technology Selection assistance system, and supporting components. For each technology, the following documents can be accessed through the Catalog of Technologies: Technology Fact Sheet, Photographs, Case Histories, Design Guidance, Quality Control/Quality Assurance, Cost Information, Specifications, and Bibliography. Technology selection assistance aids the user in identifying a short-list of potential geoconstruction technologies for a user defined set of project conditions. The value of the system is that it collects, synthesizes, integrates, and organizes a vast amount of critically important information about geotechnical solutions on a readily accessible website. The target audience for the system is primarily public agency geotechnical engineering personnel, transportation managers, and decision makers at local, state, and federal levels. Additionally, civil/structural, construction, pavement, and construction engineers in consulting, contracting, and academia will also find the system useful. Herein, the development and implementation of the web-based system are described.
