This paper suggests that some conceptual models used in health communication campaigns as well as the “uses and gratifications” approach might be successfully integrated into the evaluation of consumer informatics. These models and tools are especially pertinent when the desired outcomes of media health interventions are therapeutic changes in public knowledge, motivations, attitudes andpatient behavior.
