Patient management is a knowledge intensive activity. Therefore computer technology should be exploited to support work in medical care, either for augmenting the capabilities of the individual specialist, or to enhance the ability of collaborators to interact with each other and with some distributed computational resources. More specifically, Knowledge-Based Systems (KBSs) have long been considered as a possible means for disseminating knowledge and helping users in solving complex problems. The aim of the GAMES II project has been to develop a general framework which allows knowledge engineers and domain experts to co-operatively interact in building a medical KBS. This paper quickly illustrates the proposed methodology and some of the implemented prototypes. In both cases, the major goal of the project has been that of speeding up the process of generating KBSs and simplifying their use in order to contribute to a widespread dissemination of this technology in the health care area.
