Visual acuity measurement to determine the need for magnification is part of any low vision evaluation, but traditional methods used for normal vision may fail in the Low Vision range. This paper describes a simple and effective system using a one meter intermediate test distance and a near acuity notation that can be used for any reading distance. This systematic approach can provide a more accurate acuity rating and expedite the selection and prescription of aids.
