A home control and monitoring system is discussed, fully based on standard internet communication techniques. Its main features include wide interoperability, flexibility and low costs. Special care has been devoted to the system reliability as well. The system is fully accessible from remote locations, enabling telecare and surveillance services. Field trials are being carried out in the Parma province, to evaluate the system actual functionality and usefulness.
