Over the years, the smart home has been increasingly recognised as a field that can take advantage of technological breakthroughs in electronics and computer science. It is based on man acting as a sensor and actuator, with practices and life habits that can be stored to assist in the management of his comfort and security objectives. In this paper, the concept based on the integration of habits and practices is presented through two practical examples: the comfort and safety of the elderly. The results obtained on real sites show that, highly efficient, low cost systems can thus be obtained.
