Thanks to the proliferation of the Internet, the world is now moving towards web based e systems that would allow citizens to take care of their health using free information over the Internet. We call this consumer e-Health. Although the technologies for data access over the Internet have now matured as seen in many e-commerce applications, e-Health applications have not grown that much because of privacy concerns of consumers regarding the personal information that many web site collect in return for the services they provide to consumers. Hence there is a need for a privacy protection framework for e-Health that would be easy to deploy and standardise in the heterogeneous e-commerce environment. This paper examines the suitability of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Platform for Privacy Preferences (P3P) recommendation for providing privacy protection to consumers of e-Health. Our analysis suggests that P3P has many shortcomings for this purpose and we propose a new model to address this problem.
