In the face of global population aging, it is an issue currently worthy of being emphasized, called “aging-related technology.” From the viewpoint that the state of physiological aging influencing the functional activities for the elderly can be inferred, the elderly will face the problems in their daily life. For example, their thresholds for sound, sense of touch, sense of pressure, and feedback response to fingers gradually increase, which makes the elderly experience an increasing sense of frustration psychologically and rejects to do the similar move. The purpose of this study is to develop a gesture operation model which enables the elderly to use smartphone better. Firstly, the study team collected 5 smartphones that are popular in the market and 5 alleged intuitive operating gestures as the experimental samples for comparison. This study looks for 30 elderly people over the age of 65, two researchers investigating the elderly issue, one designer engaged in the development of smart mobile devices and programs over 5 years, and 3 product designers investigating the most suitable gestures for the elderly to operate and use. This study is compared with the two experimental variables between experimental groups and control groups. According to the experiment results of this study: the gestures of more than 2 fingers are not a good intuitive operating method for the elderly; the “innovative operating gesture” designed by the study team shows a far more significant development value in practicality than “traditional operating gestures.”.
