Conventionally, eddy current testing (ECT) has been used for the surface crack detection. However, the detection of underside and internal corrosion was difficult using this technique. Therefore, we developed an underside and internal corrosion detection technique based on extremely low frequency ECT (ELECT). To use the TMR sensor for ELECT, a TMR sensor operated with AC modulation was applied as a magnetic sensor. Then, we developed the ELECT system using a TMR sensor operated with AC modulation, and succeeded in measuring the thickness of thick steel plate.
