BAE Systems Naval Ships (NS) is currently delivering the Type 26 Global Combat Ship (T26) for the Royal Navy. In 2017 the T26 programme will transition from the design phase to the manufacturing phase. NS has implemented a novel approach to this transition through its investment in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). This paper describes the benefits realised as a result of taking a PLM centric approach in this transition over a traditional CAD centric approach. The data management system architecture and PLM system capability developed to enable NS to take this approach are also discussed.
