The article describes a group of diagnostics issues for rotating parts (including compressor and turbine blades, roller bearings, shafts). An indirect method has been applied for the structural health monitoring of critical machine parts, which is based on the detection of the angular position of the rotating parts and precise measurement of the time of their arrival, TOAm. The variable reluctance, eddy current sensor (in TTM method) or generator stator (in FAM and FDM methods) is the fixed part of the specific encoder. The main attention has been paid to precise measurement of TOAm and its transformation to form an additive required for expert SHM of the machine. The authors have also focused on the development of targeted, among others, to increase TOAm a resolution from hundreds of nanoseconds to some picoseconds (for detecting the higher vibration modes of the phase tags) and quality analysis of measurement data containing higher harmonics.
