The integration between health and engineering areas promotes the increasing precision of medical devices, making the diagnostic process progressively more accurate and safe. In this context, the integration between Product Engineering and Dentistry has provided tools development that translates human reality through mathematical concepts aiding complex processes, such as dental implant. This research presents the development of a system for teeth and gums detection using Matlab®aiming the acquisition of the point cloud for teeth and gums 3D reconstruction in a CAD system. The development of this system has aimed to support dentists in their diagnostics, offering easy understandable information and creating a tool that can help the elaboration of auxiliary masks for dental implant process. The developed system also allows easy DICOM images manipulation, utilization of edge filters, highlighted of specific range of bone density and image reconstruction of different views. The use of mathematical concepts in some functionality of the system allowed the automatic identification and processing of images parts, eliminating the possibility of human error.
