To meet the special requirements of time synchronization for structural health monitoring based on wireless sensor networks, this paper proposed an improved FTSP time synchronization algorithm to exclude the disturbance of the outliers. The algorithm determines the weight values according to the regression residuals. Using those weights, an ordinary least square method based on iteratively re-weighted is applied to estimate the regression coefficients, which can reduce outliers' negative impact on the parameter estimates. Compared with the original FTSP protocol, the results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively eliminate the interference of outliers and improve the accuracy of time synchronization. Meanwhile, the time synchronization error is controlled in microsecond, which can meet time synchronization requirements in structural health monitoring.
