8051 microcontroller units (MCUs) have the characteristics of widespread applications, ease-of-use, and high reliability, so they have been used in various kinds of embedded system. The small controllers, for example, in electronic voting machine, spring machine, automatic machine, washing machines, etc. make our lives more convenient. In this paper, we propose a new 8051 MCU (ISP51) with in-system programming via a commonly available RS-232 serial interface based on the MC8051 architecture. In-system programming is a valuable feature that allows system firmware to be upgraded without disassembling the embedded system to physically replace memory. Thus, the ISP51 microcontrollers can be reprogrammed from a PC or laptop via an inexpensive RS-232 serial interface. Furthermore, in order to investigate how to evaluate the characteristics of electromagnetic emission of ISP51 chip and improve the situation for future relative references in VLSI design, we manufactured, according to IEC 61967-2 and IEC 61967-4 standard rules, the testing board and ISP51 chip for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) measurement.
