In modern time, design is a kind of highly complex activities with a large number of coupling relationships existing among essential design factors and design resources. Traditional research is mainly focused on the internal coupling analysis for design objects and design process, but rarely involves essential design factors coupling and design services coupling. In this paper, a coupling analysis method for design service modeling and execution is proposed. In order to build multi-resolution coupling model in the local and global size, Essential Design Factors Binding Matrix and Essential Design Factors Matrix group will contribute to expressing the inside of the relationships between design services. A hybrid approach, based on partitioning operation, clustering operation and genetic algorithms, will be used to solve the coupling sets for global essential design factors. Finally, the theory, method and technologies mentioned above will be demonstrated on typical complex engineering applications.
