The paper describes an intelligent system for the automated diagnosis of HIV-pneumonias. The particular object-oriented approach adopted to set out the knowledge base allows to make use of the features of reusability and inheritance of objects, ensuring an easy and dynamical development of the knowledge base.
Classes and objects are implemented by means of frames, but another less specialized knowledge is codified by means of production rules. The system is able to identify diagnosis hypotheses and to suggest the suitable therapy.
Due to the possibility of displaying the inferential chains followed by the system, its didactical aspect is stressed.
