Currently there is a rising need to lay out a vastly growing amount of information and supersize working areas for collaboration and presentation needs. The hardware side is not able to catch up with the needs – display surfaces are still limited either in size or resolution and are not capable to offer a homogenous large scaled display with a high resolution to present the needed amount of information. This issue is tackled by constructing a multiple display environment where a user can have a tiled display surface where the resolution is high enough. But as this solution is also limited to the number of video cards in the computer and their ability to feed multiple display targets, there are ongoing studies to understand how to cope with the current limitations on bandwidths by altering the architecture of the solution. This paper summarizes the current limitations and cost-effectiveness of multi display environments and proposes ideas for alternate solutions.
