Since May 2007, in the centre of medieval Bologna, five highly specialised centres in the field of diagnosis, rehabilitation and assistive technology, entirely funded with public money, have been working under the same roof, collaborating and integrating their services. The idea is to integrate various perspectives on disability in a service flow that aims at autonomy, inclusion and participation. More generally the idea is to support “life projects” and go beyond the traditional concept of medical-welfare services for the disabled. After a brief introduction this paper will focus on the areas of Corte Roncati dedicated to assistive technology in the home environment and to domotics. Two apartments will be described, as well as their home automation features and the guidelines which inspired their design.
