The Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) has been incorporated in proprietary pavement design software, known as AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design (PMED), which uses general characteristics, asphalt concrete (AC) layer property, unbound granular (UG) layer property, climate condition, and traffic condition as input data to predict the pavement performance after a period of time. This research examines the applicability of performance models embedded in the PMED software for new flexible pavements in Hokkaido, Japan, based on eight AC pavement projects performance data and a series of laboratory test of material properties.
