The earthquake of September 19, 2017 left multiple buildings with structural damage in Mexico City; these cases require unusual technical solutions in order to preserve the affected properties. This article presents the case of two buildings built on lacustrine soils, underpinning with piles built by hand; also it remarks the effect of regulations on geotechnical design.
