Construction industry, as it is well known, is one of the industries with the highest negative impacts on the environment concerning the amount of emissions generation and resources consumption. A major percentage of these generated emissions are a result of the massive amounts of different materials utilized and consumed during the different phases of construction processes. Targeting sustainable performance achievement, construction industry has to improve its behavior towards the environment, following the footsteps of other industries. Advanced technological solutions such as BIM and LCA can drive the construction industry towards achieving sustainability. These tools can improve the process of materials selection, alternatives comparison, etc, in order to follow sustainability principles. The creation of a link between LCA and BIM, as it is going to be explained, provides an easy and direct access to the information regarding environmental impacts of the different elements included in the proposed design. Therefore, this information can be considered during decision-making in the early project phases.
