This paper presents an electromagnetic method for detection of cracks with micrometric features, created in ferromagnetic AISI 4340 steel block by the hydrogen attack. The proposed method is based on the absolute send-receive electromagnetic transducer having a rectangular frame circulated by a high frequency current as emission and a metamaterials lens that has optimal functioning at the same frequency as the excitation current as reception. Cracks with 5μm width and approximate 205μm depth have been detected. The simulations effectuated have shown the impossibility to use classical eddy current transducers for this problem.
